Weather Preparedness and Tips
Be Weather Aware when out on Table Rock Lake
When storms roll over the lake, conditions can turn dangerous in a matter of minutes. Strong winds quickly whip up high, chaotic waves that can easily capsize small vessels, while lightning presents an immediate, lethal threat to anyone exposed on open water. Because water conducts electricity and storms can severely limit visibility, your safest move is always proactive: check the radar before you head out, and at the first rumble of thunder or sign of darkening skies, get off the lake immediately and seek shelter in a sturdy building or automotive vehicle. If you do get caught on the water, ensure everyone on board has a life jacket securely fastened, drop anchor in a protected cove away from high-riding waves, and wait out the cells until our district clears the area as safe.
